Mary Cooper Smith

A native of Rome, Georgia, Mary Cooper Smith received her B.A. degree from the University of Georgia. A former director and a signature member of the Georgia Watercolor Society, Mary has had over 40 one-person exhibitions.

Some of her national-juried exhibitions include the Southern Watercolor Society, the Georgia Watercolor Society, the Marietta, Ohio National and " Les Peintres de la Fleur" at the Botanical Garden, Montreal, Canada. She is also represented in the biographical files of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation at Carnegie-Mellon Institute.

A painting of hers has appeared on the cover of both "Georgia Life" and "The Georgia Magazine". In 1993 she was chosen as the "Artist of the Year" by the Rome Area Council for tile Arts. In 2004 Mary was selected as the Featured Artist at the Rome Area Council for the Arts Gala, Fanfare, the annual fundraiser.

Recently a documentary video about Mary, her work and her studio was produced by the library channel in Rome, Ga. This video emphasized aspects of her painting including not only florals, but landscapes, portraits, animals and still life.

Mary has published 2 books. "Flowers of the South", now in its second printing, is a 76 page hard covered book which has 50 of her original watercolors in color with accompanying text and is $33.95 + $3.50 shipping and handling.

The second book, "A Day in the Life of William Bray Goat" is a children's book written by her daughter-in-law, Cathy Smith, and illustrated by Mary. It is 28 pages, with 18 illustrations in color and hard covered. It is $16.95 + $2.50 shipping and handling. In addition to the books, Mary also has limited edition prints, notecards and a line of silk scarves and silk purses.
